Rheumatoid arthritis

-Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic inflammatory process that affects the synovial membranes and articular structures with a female to male ratio of 3:1.

 -The regions affected in order of descending frequency are hands>feet>knees>hips>cervical spine>shoulders>elbow.

 
The radiologic features include
Bilateral symmetric distribution 
Periarticular soft tissue swelling
 Juxta-articular osteoporosis
progressing to diffuse osteoporosis
 Uniform loss of joint space
Marginal and bare area erosions
 Ligamentous laxity predisposes
to subluxations at the affected joints
