Gout is caused by the overproduction or
decreased excretion of uric acid, or both
Uric acid crystals accumulate in the soft tissues
and synovium leading to joint inflammation and
Destruction
— Common sites include the big toe
and olecranon fossa
— The large erosions are
periarticular and result in "overhanging edges
